The Soul and the Soil is an online synchronous graduate-level course offering students a unique opportunity to explore the Orthodox Church’s past, present, and future commitment to creation care in an ecumenical context. From understanding the climate situation to delving into the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s pioneering efforts, the course covers initiatives in Orthodox churches worldwide and examines synodal decisions, encyclicals, and other key documents.

The course covers a wide range of topics, from understanding the current climate crisis to examining the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s groundbreaking initiatives. Students will explore global Orthodox responses, including synodal decisions, encyclicals, and other foundational documents that shape the Church’s approach to creation care.
