An interview with the director of Volos Academy for Theological Studies, Dr. Pantelis Kalaitzidis, was recently published on the website of the University of Erfurt (Germany). The interview was given to Dr. Efstathios Kessareas, postdoctoral researcher in the University, and is part of the research project “The Challenge of Worldliness to Contemporary Christianity: Orthodox Christian Perspectives in Dialogue with Western Christianity”. It focuses on the course of Volos Academy since its creation in 2000, its reception by various audiences but also the reactions caused by its activity. The extensive interview also touches on issues concerning the relationship of Orthodox theology with all the forms of otherness, the relationship between Church and State in countries where Orthodoxy is the prevailing religion, the role of the Orthodox Churches in the political developments internationally, the difficulty of the Orthodox Church to accept gender equality and the new roles of women, the need for greater participation of the laity in the Church processes, but also the way in which the ecumenical dialogue is treated by the conservative centers of the Orthodox world.
