THE EMERGENCE OF A NEW THEOLOGICAL AGENDA IN ORTHODOXY, AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF THE WAR IN UKRAINE

The Director of Volos Academy for Theological Studies, Dr. Pantelis Kalaitzidis, gives a lecture on Wednesday, May 11, 6.30 pm CET, in Geneva, on “The emergence of a new theological agenda in Orthodoxy, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine”. The lecture is part of the "My Religion in the City" series of events of the Yves Oltramare Chair at the Geneva Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies in Geneva, will be in hybrid form and will be accessible online.

Citing the original press-release, “Director of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, holder of university responsibilities in various religious associations on a European and international scale, Professor Pantelis Kalaitzidis will question the emergence of new currents of thought within Orthodoxy and the distancing of many theologians against the 'Russian world', in the dramatic context of the war in Ukraine. In the concern for reflection and dialogue that characterizes it, the Yves Oltramare chair is inaugurating a new cycle of public conferences, 'My religion in the city', which will allow women or men of faith -or unbelief- to discuss the place of their religion, spiritual or sociological, in the city in relation to politics, to international news, to the major ethical questions of the contemporary world, to the social and environmental challenges. Beyond the academic world and International Geneva, this cycle is addressing a wide audience interested in civic questions, wishing to share their convictions or their uncertainties in a spirit of listening and mutual respect.”
